Tutorials for Wordpress

Don’t worry if you don’t absorb all of the information on this page right away. After a little putzing around with the site, it will all come together for you.  Always feel free to contact me at 612-296-0007.

What is Wordpress?

Wordpress is just open-source software that I have uploaded to the server. It  manages and displays your website content. Wordpress is search-engine friendly, and is the platform of choice for everyone from presidential candidates to Fortune 500 companies.

I have installed various plugins (more software) to add functionality.

What is Bluehost?

Bluehost provides server space for your Wordpress blogsite. I recommend Bluehost because it is low-cost and has 24/7 support. They are there to correct server problems and domain name issues, etc. They do not manage your Wordpress blog site. You will be learning how to manage your own site.

What if  I Want to Make Major Alterations or Upgrades to My Site?

Do not attempt to upgrade your Wordpress site without consulting with me first.  Some of the plugins that add functionality to your site may not yet be compatible with upgrades.

*New for photos!

For those of you who have already been using Wordpress, the video will show you an easier way to install alt tags correctly.

1. Place your phrase in the “title” field (look for the red asterisk.)
2.
Leave the caption field BLANK
.

You will lose the caption function, but the alt tag will be installed correctly. If you still want a caption,  you can always type something under the photo later, anyway.  The caption function just gums up the page with a lot of extraneous code.
